Overview

Digitising a repeating surface into a clean, seamless tile is tedious manual work: offsetting and clone-stamping in Photoshop, eyeballing the exact repeat, and doing it all over again for every aligned layer (diffuse, normal, bump, displacement). Tessera automates the hard part. It detects the pattern's periodic lattice and reconstructs one seamless tile per layer, all kept in register, by averaging across many real repeats so scan noise, lint and uneven lighting fall away while the motif stays sharp.

It is algorithm-driven but hint-guided: you drop a few dots on a repeating feature, optionally mask out folds or defects and set a scale reference, and it fits the warp/weft period and a deformable mesh, then extracts the tile. Beyond the single tile it can assemble an arbitrary-size quilt with seam-aware blending, synthesise fabric that does not repeat exactly to any size, add subtle curl-noise warp so the weave is not a dead-straight CG grid, and preview the result as a lit PBR material in 3D. It is aimed at texture and material artists, and commercial fabric, textile and pattern shops digitising scans (e.g. Metis-class scanners) for 3D, CG and visualisation.

FAQ

Do I need a special scanner?

No. Any photos or scans of the repeating pattern work. It's designed around commercial textile (Metis-class) scans but isn't tied to a specific device.

Does it need CUDA or a high-end GPU?

No. It needs an OpenGL 4.5 GPU for the viewport; the optional ML assists run on the CPU. Large scans simply benefit from more VRAM and RAM.

Can it output more than one material layer?

Yes. Diffuse, normal, bump, displacement and scalar layers are extracted as separate seamless tiles, kept in register, with per-layer colour handling and TIFF/EXR/PNG export.

Is it a Photoshop or Substance plugin?

No, it's a standalone Windows app. Feed it a folder or multi-page TIFF of your layers and it exports tiles you can bring into any DCC.
